Analysis [ESPN] "If this is the precedent, then I owe it to my players to bring in people from Las Vegas to teach us how to gamble," a Big 12 coach told ESPN on Monday. "Then collectively, we need to decide which games we will play hard in [to cover the spread] and which ones we won't.”

News [Ross Dellenger] Big 12 ADs tell @YahooSports they’ve had “serious” talks on not playing Texas Tech. One SEC AD says there should be conversations about not playing Tech “in any sports.”

Satire [Burns] Hear me out…..LSU should sign Joe Burrow, Justin Jefferson & Ja’Marr Chase on their NFL bye week, let them play. NCAA declares it illegal, but just find a Louisiana judge to file an injunction. Rules are just pesky suggestions now.

Discussion [Tyrann Mathieu] Can I return back to college football? I only played 2 seasons, should have 2 more eligibility years left…. Can you find me a judge in Louisiana who can see to it that Honey Badger gets to finish his last 2 years of college football? Who’s going to say no ?????

News [Pete Thamel] Reaction from lawyer Tom Mars, a veteran of NCAA cases: "In 40 years as a lawyer, I've never been as shocked and surprised by a court ruling." That sums the reaction on the college sports landscape today.

Opinion [Baumgardner] tell you what if I was a HC with clout and some slack and have a game vs. Texas Tech where Sorsby is eligible this season -- I'm coming out that Monday and telling everyone that if he's on the field in uniform on Saturday we won't be there.

Analysis [Hall] many are decrying the ruling, but "Brendan Sorsby will suffer irreparable harm if he does not play Texas Tech football" sets up life-saving precedent like "This quarterback will suffer irreparable harm if they are permitted to play Florida State football this fall" down the line

News [Dellenger] The NCAA plans to file an appeal in the Sorsby case, source tells @YahooSports, as expected. Several administrators believe conferences and/or schools should file an amicus brief in support of the NCAA's appeal as part of the filing.

Discussion Has anything united CFB fans as much as the Sorbsy decision today?

Upvotes

Other than a few Tech fans that can't see past the end of their nose, it seems like pretty much everyone agrees that Sorbsy playing would be terrible for the sport.

Has there ever been anything similar in CFB history that has united fans on one particular side of an argument?

News Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark: “The ramifications of today’s ruling are significant and could have broad impacts across college athletics, creating great concern amongst our membership. We are also in touch with Charlie Baker and anticipate the NCAA to appeal the order in the next 24-48 hours."

Discussion If the NCAA appeals the Sorsby decision, it would go to the Texas Seventh Court of Appeals. All four justices are Texas Tech graduates

Not to say that they would absolutely rule in his favor, but it's wild to see all everyone overseeing this case as a connection to Tech.

Casual [SEC Mike] Texas now has an opportunity to become the hero of college football. Agree to play Tech Week 1, beat the hell out of them and expose the tortilla tossers.

News [Nakos] Spoke with a few attorneys, NCAA can immediately file for an appeal. Timeline on that might not fit what NCAA wants. Any other recourse would violate the injunction enjoining NCAA's rule of restitution.

Serious How far away are we from suing about basic rules, calls, and the outcomes of games?

Not a troll post. With today's court injunction in favor of Brendan Sorsby, it appears even the most fundamental, universally agreed-upon rules of the game no longer matter. So with millions of dollars on the line for players and Athletic Departments, what's keeping this from sliding into lawsuits about basic rules, on-the-field calls, and the outcomes of games?

For example, many if not most targeting ejections are highly disputable. A player who gets called for targeting in the second half of a game so he can't play in the first half of the next game should, at this point, file for an emergency injunction in the week between games to get the rule overturned. Given that rules don't matter anymore, why not?

This sucks. It truly does. But is this the direction we're heading?

Discussion Could the CFP rule Tech Inelligible for the 2026 Playoff?

They operate as an LLC with their own Board of Managers. Can they not simply act on their own behalf to exclude Tech unless they drop Sorsby? Per their own ruling based on this singular case? Is there anything binding them to including every FBS team no matter what? They already determine what champions and what at-large teams appear.

Analysis [Mit Winter] This is correct. Nothing in the Protect College Sports Act would stop athlete lawsuits against the NCAA based on contract claims, like the claims Sorsby brought. The Sorsby injunction is just being used as a lobbying tool

Discussion How long until failed NFL prospects are on rosters?

We’ve already seen basketball players on G-League or even fully on NBA teams comeback and gain eligibility to play for NCAA teams. Are we gonna see UDFA or practice roster players all of a sudden gonna start signing back to college teams?
