Video - OC CDS knows where I live now
Mama is the neighborhood feral that I am trying to befriend so I can trap her and have her spayed. Now add 3 babies to that goal.

Probably just open the door lol

Oh the way I ran to the door but I was about 30 seconds too late.

I would still be stood out there, desperately shaking a bag of treats, begging them to come back, cursing my poor psp-psp-psp skills!
Not that I'm desperate for a cat or 2 or anything...CDS please find me 🙏

Such a tease. She should at least take you out to dinner before playing these mind games.

u/ShortStoryIntros 2h ago
Try placing a cardboard box outside your door with a blanket/towel inside
If there's a water dish nearby.. they probably won't stray too far away from it
4
u/Top-Fox6250 4h ago
It's easy to say that, but the moment you take an animal in, it becomes your responsibility
2
u/naidalys 4h ago
Yeah, I think we may be overcomplicating this. Just open the door and see what happens.

Bro, that one baby got separated from the rest. 😞

u/embos_wife 6h ago
I have a second video where he turns and yells for Mom and she came back for him :) Worry not, the family is all together or else if me outside looking for a spicy kitten that needs help

u/LEGAL_SKOOMA 6h ago
oh thank god thank you for this update

u/embos_wife 6h ago
No problem! When I saw him get separated I was worried until the second video popped up and I saw he has some serious vocal cords and found mom

That second video is the happy ending everyone was hoping for. Glad Mom came back for her little screamer.

Oh, thank goodness!!! I legitimately said, "Mama, you forgot a baby!" And then, when it started to dart off on its own, I was like, "Nononononono!!!" 😭💖

Maybe the mo didn’t go after the baby because it needs to learn a lesson to stay with the group lol I saw that baby look their direction they left and went the other way haha

It's amazing who they know is safe. The feral cats stay near my house because they know my dog won't bother them (he's deaf and blind, even if he did sniff them out he'd likely adopt them). I've done what I can to help them all.
26
u/Dentonfire 5h ago
Have you seen the outdoor cat shelter that comes with an insulated interior for cold weather? Idk if it normally comes with a camera but the cats usually look so cute n warm and content.
33
u/embos_wife 5h ago
Yes! I thinking of adding one. We live in a cul-de-sac by a golf course, so it's quiet and we have a TON of mice. I want to do TNR, she can live out her days in peace in her neighborhood keeping the mice from eating my car
-46
u/hard-dee4u 5h ago
She’s not that good of a judge of character your trying to trap her and force surgery on her 🤷♂️
23
u/embos_wife 5h ago
Then rerelease her to her home where she can live not constantly popping out kittens until it wears her body down and kills her? I've watched what happens to the ones we can't TNR
10
u/mainman879 4h ago
Cats, even strays, live longer and less stressful lives after being spayed. Being in heat puts immense stress on their bodies and minds and leads to shorter lifespans, not to mention overpopulation issues.

Time to pony up with the food.
34
u/embos_wife 6h ago
I do put out food for her when she stays around here. I think they have several sources so she seems to rotate where she stays

u/kalashnikov482 6h ago
i love how routine it seems for the momma cat she's like "I'm here pls give me food" 😭
30
u/embos_wife 6h ago
I usually sit it out after she comes by to doorbell cam because I know it's my turn on her rotation :)

It's a problem. Husband says I'm capped, 4 cats, a dog, and 3 kids is enough. 2 of our cats are from this colony

Awe wish I could take a couple of kitties off of your hands.

u/embos_wife 6h ago
Thank you :) I just love animals. All of them 🤣
8
u/Acrobatic_Tailor478 6h ago
Me too. How someone treats animals shows their kindness and decency
10
u/embos_wife 5h ago
100% I don't trust anyone who hates animals. You can not want pets, but to hate their existence... We've saved every thing from mice to hawks here
3
u/lamamadeFitz 5h ago
Exactly Op!! I’m the same, I’d have a whole zoo in my house if I could 🤣
7
u/embos_wife 5h ago
If I ever become wealthy, there will be signs. I will have a little town built for cats and I will adopt every long term resident of the shelters that I can to come live out their days in kitty town.

19
u/embos_wife 6h ago
I'm afraid it's been out. I raised 1 litter when mama disappeared (we never found her :() and I have another that we found in our garage alone. They know a sucker and an animal in need will always trump all
9
u/Maleficent_Froyo7336 6h ago
Oh!! I so hope you get them all OP!
I've currently got a neighborhood stray mama on my finished front porch singing the song of her horny ancestors. She's got a surgery appointment in 8 days.
Her kittens were raised to around 12 weeks and homed out to a lovely couple who wanted both and drove a 6 hour round trip to have them 🩷
I wish you the best of luck!! You're doing a wonderful thing

u/LawlessFeathers 5h ago
“Song of her horny ancestors” 😂 thank you for giving me my first laugh of the day. I will be using this for my mom’s kitten.

u/AgileNetwork9375 6h ago
At least it’s not the raccoon or possum distribution system.
14
u/embos_wife 6h ago
I've had a possum come to the door! I was so stinking excited! The racoons we don't see much, just the mess when they find a trash can that isn't larched
-4
u/AgileNetwork9375 5h ago
Possums carry diseases that can kill horses like EPM. Treatment is expensive. Not a fan of
4
u/embos_wife 5h ago
I live in town, no horses near me :)
-3
u/AgileNetwork9375 5h ago
They are also hosts to disease effecting people like salmonella, leptospirosis, Chagas, and various parasites
6
u/embos_wife 5h ago
Well I'm not petting them. He's outside, it was his home long before mine so we live in harmony.

Hey shes helping you hit your goal faster. It just went from 1 future being saved to 4!
Mama knows you’re a good person. She brought those kittens to you on purpose.
4
u/Morbid187 5h ago
Oh no! That one baby was being too curious about your front door and got left behind then went the wrong way when he realized it!
5
u/embos_wife 5h ago
He got back! With his impressive vocal cords mama hear his cries and came and got him :)

5
u/BlackMetal81 4h ago
My Uncle Mike would do that. Catch them, spay/neuter them, then set them free
9/10 times they would stick around after that, and he eventually had a little cat colony at his house. I miss my Uncle Mike..
1
u/embos_wife 4h ago
Sounds like my people! When we moved here the colony was huge, 30-50 cats. In the last 11 years we've worked to trap kittens and TNR and move some of them to be barn cats. There's maybe 7 cats left now counting these 3 babies. It's hard to know if you got them all when they are almost all orange, black, and tortie

Why don’t I get these kinds of visitors to my door? All I get are people trying to sell their service or religion!
3
u/embos_wife 5h ago
I'd answer my door a lot more often if this was my visitor!
We are lucky to be tucked away a bit and get a lot of visitors of all types since our dog is deaf and blind. They all learned quick that there's no need to run from him 🤣 But the ferals usually stay away from houses, this is a lovely development for me!
2
u/TheIadyAmalthea 5h ago
I’m at the end of a dead end street in a rural-ish area. I don’t get too many people back here. I did get a fat raccoon at my porch one night! He was running back and forth screaming and I peeked out of the door and he took off!
1
u/embos_wife 5h ago
I would squee so loud I'd scare him. I LOVE racoons. Naughty little buggers but the cute makes it worth it
2
u/Questions_Remain 5h ago
Ya, i need a cat. I already have a roof. I don’t need 2 roofs but everyone could use two cats.
4
u/HailtheBrusselSprout 5h ago
If at any point recently you felt a little weird scar on your neck then you were chipped. Mama knows what to do.
3
u/MegaMau_ 3h ago edited 2h ago
Get them used to eating in the garage with the door just up enough for them to get in.
Add a motion detecting camera.
When all the cats are inside use garage door opener, that you have taken out of your car, and close it on them.
Works best if the car is not in the garage.

u/globalchick2023 6h ago
Please get those babies off the streets asap so they can become socialised and have a chance at a normal life and at an appropriate time they also need desexing.
Please approach rescues for help with getting the kittens. The mother cat will need to be neutered as soon as possible or she will have more
15
u/embos_wife 6h ago
Working on it but the colony is really old and very wary of humans. We can't get within 20 feet of them and the traps haven't been super successful.
9
u/Estellalatte 6h ago
That’s a truly feral cat, they absolutely won’t interact with humans.
3
u/embos_wife 6h ago
Yes. I think I might be able to get her now because she is so comfortable coming up to my house. They tend to stay to the sewers and the wooded area near me which is really hard to get them. But these are all truly feral.
3
u/DistractedThinker 6h ago
We had the same problem. Some just refuse to walk into a trap. Have you tried a drop-trap? It was more expensive, but worth it for all the cats we’ve been able to TNR and multiple kittens that can be trapped at one time. We’ve found paracord works best to yank when hiding far away out of sight. Thank you for your hard work with these cats.

Aw! I'm trying to do the same thing! There's a stray momma 2 doors down and lives under their deck! I've contacted a place but I have to contact the home owners and I can never seem to catch them! Id love to do a TNR! I dont want to see any homeless hungry kitties outside!

u/Immediate-Yak3138 3h ago
That happened to my upstairs neighbor as well recently. There was a friendly stray orange that he finally got around to allowing to stay and got an appointment lined up to get spayed.
Too late, Trojan cat. Need to ask him for pics next time I see him

Omg what a lovely family! 🥰Are you going to put out food, water and shelter to try to trap them?
3
u/embos_wife 4h ago
Working on it! The colony is old and very feral, they usually don't come near the houses, so I think I'm gaining trust.
2
u/shortmumof2 4h ago
Ah so might just have to do a TNR? Especially with Mom, babies might be able to catch for adoption since they're still young, yeah?
Edit: hopefully Mom will let you or someone else take her in though 🤞
3
u/embos_wife 4h ago
Yes! I have gotten 6 babies socialized and adopted through the years so I think those babies can still be socialized pretty easily. Mama will just be a TNR

u/Perlinian_Willow 4h ago
Looks like you have been running from them for a while and have some back taxes due, so you get a whole family to get back on track.

I have one cat and a 2 acre yard/forest. My neighbor has 9 cats and a tiny yard. Cats don't understand or care about property lines. I essentially have 10 cats.
1
u/embos_wife 4h ago
No they don't. I have 4 but they are strictly indoor. It is nice to have a few TNR around the neighborhood because the mice got out of control when the colony got too small. Started chewing on our house and cars

This makes me thinking of CDS when I lived in the trailer court. I worked closely with local trap/spaylneuter/release program volunteers. Lol

u/Thin_Profile6265 1h ago
Place half can of tuna outside the door, once they are gathered by it open the door slowly, and have the rest on a plate inside.

u/Starslip 37m ago
I love the "come on, kids" meow and most of them obey. Also the "where'd everybody go?" look from the little one that got left behind.

u/Hairy-Importance320 3h ago
Stop feeding, more will just show up. Just call animal control. Unless you’re going sell the kitties for $50 a piece.
