Lads, this is FIFA. There's corruption by the host, every, single time. Nothing changed. People still buy their product. No one penalized them. It will only get worse.

u/Bigdaddy291 2h ago

I remember my friend informing that the FIFA President gets crazy paid...that's why he's always mute.

193

u/Broken-TTK 2h ago

These past 2 world cups have been so blatantly corrupt it literally cannot be ignored anymore, even by idiots.

This will be the threepeat of corruption and I honestly think it'll be the worst.

128

u/BigLRakim 2h ago

Wasn't the one in Qatar literally made possible by modern day slave labor?

The US is bad, but that was some insane shit they did to make Qatar happen...

68

u/v_a_n_d_e_l_a_y 2h ago

The last three hosts were the US (and Can/Mex), Qatar and Russia. After some sanity in 2030, it goes to Saudi Arabia in 2034.

16

u/awildjabroner 2h ago

heard an interesing opinion that this and last WC are 2 last opportunities for a stretch for FIFA cash grab before the tournament returns to the EU where more regulation and ocmmon sense exist compared to the middle east and USA.

6

u/_Clit-Commander_ 2h ago

Corrupt in what way? Like the matches are fixed? Or like they’re taking money from players? Truly out the loop on soccer and FIFA.

45

u/Disastrous-Glove4889 2h ago

The awarding of the location of the World Cup. Russia hosted 2018 (known for being above board) and then Qatar somehow won the bid to host 2022. The summer World Cup had to be moved to winter because of how hot summer is in Qatar, they changed so much just so Qatar could host. There was evidence afterwards that basically all of FIFA got bribes from Qatar but it got completely “missed” by the mainstream media. All of FIFA is morally bankrupt. It’s somehow got worse after they got rid of Blatter, a known conman.

45

u/Slimyarmpits 2h ago

A bunch of people died making the stadiums last time and were paid extremely little to nothing.

…and the real problem between the US and Tehran is not what’s happening in a soccer tournament. It’s what’s happening with bombs and lives and threats and instability and all the rest.

18

u/KingNyx 2h ago

I mean this is the same organization that gave Trump a peace prize. Who is surprised?

11

Stop watching. I love football. But will not watch international football. National leagues are bad enough. International football is just politics now.

75

u/Broken-Digital-Clock 2h ago

Qatar was the last straw for me. They always find a way to make it worse though.

-10

u/cheir0n 2h ago

You think Argentina won fair and square last cup? Qatar wanted to the be country where Messi won so they put their traditional clothes on him. Argentina couldn’t proceed without a starting penalty

28

u/Username-_-Password 2h ago

You're really trying to use human rights violations to do some anti Messi propaganda

→ More replies (1)

u/neverspeakofme 2h ago

Don't get it. They can put the traditional clothes on any player, from any country, whatever they want as part of the celebration. It's just some cape. Why do they need to rig games to do it.

Fifa have had a long, long, long history of outright corruption. The peace prize is silly but not even close to the worst thing they have done.

Corrupt Person: “Hey FIFA, are you willing to do this extremely immoral thing?”

FIFA: “Absolutely not! We’re offended that you would even ask!”

Corrupt Person: “I’ll give you money.”

FIFA: “…how much?”

23

u/Whiteshadows86 2h ago

Even the peace prize they gave Trumpy looks immoral!

It looks like a load of evil hands grabbing at the World…

10

that or tantalizing the lower classes (the reaching hands) with opportunity (the world) and keeping it just out of reach

53

People are making this a bigger deal than when the World Cup used actual slave labor to build a new stadium (that’s now abandoned and took land away from an already very impoverished area) that led to deaths. The fake outrage is hilarious. Yall are actually insane. If a majority of people actually cared as much as you say you do, the World Cup wouldn’t still be a thing ran by the current admin of fifa.

It is like reading an elementary school student writing an essay. World does not have unicorns and there is no santa. No one gives a shit. People will watch it like superman is real. There won't be anything. It will go on. Matches will be packed. It will be as it is. Nothing will happen. Maybe it is time to accept that, it is over. Everything will be discriminated, everything will be bad, and people will still want more. There is no chance, I mean no chance that something meaningful coming out of this. Everything will be fine. :)

Russia is literally banned from competing, it makes sense to implement rules like this when countries are at war

59

u/Anarcho_FemBoi 2h ago

3

u/Careful_Turnip_3197 2h ago

Yea but the World Cup is very European influenced so they aren’t as concerned about protecting or stopping the war against Iran, it’s also just safer for the Iran team to not be in the country that their own country is at war with

In fairness, Iran are lucky to play at all given they're at war with the US. Not Irans fault, I know, but with FIFA in Trump's pocket for the World Cup I'm surprised he hasn't had them straight up banned.

41

u/anon1984 2h ago

War? Nah, he got the peace prize remember?

18

u/ZiaWatcher PURPLE 2h ago

Plus I heard the war was over, multiple times even! /s if not obvious

3

u/Reaper621 2h ago

Well it's been over hundreds of times. Every night, the soldiers go to bed, and that's when the war stops

13

u/Deathwatch72 2h ago

If Iran had started the war that would make more sense, but it would stand a reason that if you're going to host an international tournament you can't just declare war another countries as a pretext for not letting them compete properly. If that's a valid strategy I just figured out how the US can win all of the Olympic golds

2

u/Crowfooted 2h ago

This sentiment confuses me very much

0

u/Li-renn-pwel 2h ago

I have no example but I feel like there is a 100% chance someone has started a war specifically to win a sporting event.

4

American and Israel started the war

4

u/Calculonx 2h ago

Imagine if these same conditions were imposed on Israel

16

u/GoodPear8481 2h ago

Indonesia literally did that last year. They banned Israeli athletes from competing at the World Gymnastics Championships, not because the governing body of the sport banned Israel, but simply because the Islamic government of Indonesia refused to grant visas to the Israelis.

Unsurprisingly, the same people are who crying in this thread about Iranian athletes being banned from the US openly celebrated Indonesia because they have zero actual principles.

USA bombed the peace loving country of Iran. The Iranian government who loves peace, free speech, freedom of religion. The ones who take care of their people when they express their displeasure of certain aspects of their peaceful loving government. The government that does its best to provide for other peaceful groups around the region. The government that only wants peaceful nuclear power. Worse than the last one in Qatar which was built by slave labor and so hot it was literally dangerous for players to play?

Or do you mean worse than the one before that in Moscow (famously internationally chill Moscow) where FIFA fired a doctor for investigating doping in Russian athletes, the one that took place in the shadow of an attempted Russian assassination of a UK citizen on UK soil?

Or do you mean worse than the one before that in Brazil where the country cleared the slums and basically bankrupted itself to build stadiums that are now empty and unused? The mass protest one?

Nah this is just continuing a long-standing tradition. Just think of the blatant and horrifying corruption as part of the charm of the FIFA world cup.
