I mean, many people are saying it. They always come up to him and say "sir, I've been watching African referees a long time" a long time, Africa is the oldest continent some say, so a long time means a long time "and you are the greatest African referee I've ever seen, so fair, so good... the others? they're the worst, crooked, just awful and crooked like we've never seen before"

Somalian Ref - one of the top 3 in Africa (if not the #1). Omar Artan. Sent back to Istanbul. No reason given.

He has a long list of top refereeing honors (including 2025 CAF Referee of the Year)

It’s FIFA, they gave Trump a FIFA Peace Prize. There’s a 0% chance they’d actually not be corrupt

Fifa have had a long, long, long history of outright corruption. The peace prize is silly but not even close to the worst thing they have done.

I’m calling it now, the USA team is going to have some “miracle run” that they will try to sell as a “Cinderella Story” and the matches will be heavily refereed in favor of the US , thus pissing everyone off

They made up an entire FIFA Peace Prize for trump because he was in his FIFIs.

FIFA could fix the issue. It chose not to.

This is football. This is organized by fucking FIFA, an organization that is so corrupt and universally despised that it ranks lower in perceived public trust than actual terrorist organizations. They are absolutely not going to care if the host country discriminates against anything. FIFA is just about money.

People are making this a bigger deal than when the World Cup used actual slave labor to build a new stadium (that’s now abandoned and took land away from an already very impoverished area) that led to deaths. The fake outrage is hilarious. Yall are actually insane. If a majority of people actually cared as much as you say you do, the World Cup wouldn’t still be a thing ran by the current admin of fifa.

It is like reading an elementary school student writing an essay. World does not have unicorns and there is no santa. No one gives a shit. People will watch it like superman is real. There won't be anything. It will go on. Matches will be packed. It will be as it is. Nothing will happen. Maybe it is time to accept that, it is over. Everything will be discriminated, everything will be bad, and people will still want more. There is no chance, I mean no chance that something meaningful coming out of this. Everything will be fine. :)

Yea but the World Cup is very European influenced so they aren’t as concerned about protecting or stopping the war against Iran, it’s also just safer for the Iran team to not be in the country that their own country is at war with

In fairness, Iran are lucky to play at all given they're at war with the US. Not Irans fault, I know, but with FIFA in Trump's pocket for the World Cup I'm surprised he hasn't had them straight up banned.

u/ZiaWatcher PURPLE 2h ago

3
u/Reaper621 2h ago
Well it's been over hundreds of times. Every night, the soldiers go to bed, and that's when the war stops
13
u/Deathwatch72 2h ago
If Iran had started the war that would make more sense, but it would stand a reason that if you're going to host an international tournament you can't just declare war another countries as a pretext for not letting them compete properly. If that's a valid strategy I just figured out how the US can win all of the Olympic golds
2

u/Li-renn-pwel 2h ago
I have no example but I feel like there is a 100% chance someone has started a war specifically to win a sporting event.

16
u/GoodPear8481 2h ago
Indonesia literally did that last year. They banned Israeli athletes from competing at the World Gymnastics Championships, not because the governing body of the sport banned Israel, but simply because the Islamic government of Indonesia refused to grant visas to the Israelis.
Unsurprisingly, the same people are who crying in this thread about Iranian athletes being banned from the US openly celebrated Indonesia because they have zero actual principles.

Remind me, who started the war by bombing a sovereign country? The risks were created by the USA
2
u/carpedrinkum 2h ago
USA bombed the peace loving country of Iran. The Iranian government who loves peace, free speech, freedom of religion. The ones who take care of their people when they express their displeasure of certain aspects of their peaceful loving government. The government that does its best to provide for other peaceful groups around the region. The government that only wants peaceful nuclear power. It’s not their fault that they are just so good at enrichment that they over enriched it.

The" adminstration" is probably hoping for MAGAttacks on the Iranian players on the way to and from the matches, and even at the matches. That's probably why they probably begrudgingly agreed to let the Iran team visit the US at all during the WC.

Worse than the last one in Qatar which was built by slave labor and so hot it was literally dangerous for players to play?
Or do you mean worse than the one before that in Moscow (famously internationally chill Moscow) where FIFA fired a doctor for investigating doping in Russian athletes, the one that took place in the shadow of an attempted Russian assassination of a UK citizen on UK soil?
Or do you mean worse than the one before that in Brazil where the country cleared the slums and basically bankrupted itself to build stadiums that are now empty and unused? The mass protest one?
Nah this is just continuing a long-standing tradition. Just think of the blatant and horrifying corruption as part of the charm of the FIFA world cup.
