Showcase (No-Recipe) I made my friend's graduation party cake!
It's a triple chocolate mousse cake infused with a coffee liqueur syrup. Yes the D's in "did" are turned the wrong way but it was 3am by the time I did the lettering and I just didn't have it in me to do it again lol
Sponge Bob is her favorite childhood cartoon and it got her through some really difficult times in college!

She said the same lol! Thank you

For real though, the wonky D's fit that zoinked out Squidward like a hand-tailored suit.

Came here to say I graduated from grad school last week and I feel confident speaking for my entire cohort when I say the backwards Ds are an absolutely stellar representation of my mental state by my grad party lol

Those layers are annoyingly perfect. I mean that in the most complimentary way! Looks scrumptious.

Hahah thank you so much! I consider this the highest of compliments!

The backward D's actually give it that authentic SpongeBob 'mocking meme' energy anyway!

My layer cakes are always in the “at least it tastes good” spirit

Mine usually look like a structural hazard, but the flavor saves the day.

When I saw the layers, I could tell this friend who made the cake for her baked the cake with a lot of love, care and dedication. I can tell the friend really loves and cares about the graduate deeply. Although I am not a SpongeBob fan, I can tell this cake is amazingly made. I don’t know how you can eat that cake since it’s too nice to eat. I guess you can remember from the pictures…

That level of detail on Squidward with just a flippin’ piping bag is outstanding! First class 🤩

Are you professionally trained ? It amazes me the talent of the bakers that whip up a cake like this!

No, I'm self taught but I've been doing this for a few years and I turned it into a career! Thank you so much

Honestly the backward Ds just make it feel more like something squidward would actually do. 10/10 execution

absolutely incredible. do you have tips for getting your cake layers so freaking even? even when i use a leveler they don’t turn out that well!
30
u/Barbi0za Human Detected 6h ago
I weigh the batter to equally divide it, I bake each layer separately , I also love a slow bake to get an even rise and in the end I use dental floss to get a clean cut since I do like to remove the cake tops!

u/stinkyfunkincar 6h ago
Thank you so much!!!!!!!! This is actually super helpful. I suppose I’m too naturally lazy to even consider weighing the batter LOL Im going to do this next time!!

So much work, but it absolutely shows in flawless execution
Edit: and happy accidents haha3
u/SugarBeefs 3h ago
I'm a newb so despite the perhaps obvious meaning of the words on face value, I'm confused what you mean by "bake each layer separately".
3
u/Barbi0za Human Detected 3h ago
I didn't bake one cake and divide it into 3 layers, instead I baked 3 separate layers! I prefer that for a more even bake that doesn't dry out the cake
3
u/SugarBeefs 3h ago
Ah, and the layers are dark-mid-light, another dark-mid-light, and a final piece of dark to top it off?
Because I figured the two lighter layers look way too moist and creamy to be baked completely on their own (so like 7 layers in total), and I also figured adding a layer each time and then bake the entire cake would obviously nuke the bottom layers after a few times.
But it makes sense if it's basically two identical three-layered cakes stacked on top of each other with a single layered 'cap piece' to seal it off, so I'm carefully assuming that's what you did.
It looks amazing and perhaps I should try something chocolate moussey for next weekend's baking project!

u/Barbi0za Human Detected 3h ago
Correct! 3 dark cake layers, two medium dark mousse layers, two light mousse layers! The cake layers are baked, the mousse is just assembled and chilled. OP only asked about the cake layers so that what I was referring to, not the cake as a whole but just the actual layers of baked cake.

u/SugarBeefs 33m ago
Oooh wait, I'm an idiot, the two lighter mousse layers are of course not baked, now I get it :)

All of it looks delicious, the chocolate is something I inhale due to the coffee.

It looks too pretty to eat… I mean I still would but I might feel a little guilty about it

There is a lot to love about this cake. But mostly its a perfectly accurate image of reaching that school end goal.

If my son graduates college (BIG if)....he's getting this cake...backwards D's and all (since the D's go with the worn out, caffeine driven look of Squidward). It's perfect!

The Ds add to the charm of the cake. This is fantastic work and the cake flavor sounds too good for my little diabetic chocolate loving heart. Also, your layering is pleasing to the eye, on top of your decorating skill.

Did you do the piping on wax paper and transfer it onto the cake by flipping it? I am just trying to figure out how squidward got the flat folded looking texture! Looks amazing btw
